In 1965, the International Council of Nurses (ICN) declared May 12th as the official celebration of International Nurses Day to commemorate Florence Nightingale’s birthday—the mother of modern nursing. Each year ICN distributes an International Nurses Kit containing educational and public information materials for nurses to use across the world.
This year’s theme is Nurses: A Voice to Lead-Health for All. According to ICN’s website, their motto means that not only should there be the “availability of health services, but a complete state of physical and mental health that enables a person to lead a socially and economically productive life.”
Nurses are the heart of the healthcare system and we’re thankful for the care they give. Interstaff has recruited nurses from over 35 countries and we are extremely proud of our diverse family. To view our post celebrating International Nurses Day, click here.
