No two days are the same for a nurse and each shift can be very demanding. Since nurses’ roles are so complex, they need to possess various qualities to properly perform their duties. We’ve highlighted a few below:

  • Empathy – nurses should have a high level of compassion to showcase sympathy for patients who are experiencing pain and suffering. Nurses are caregivers so patients look to them for comfort and relief.
  • Problem-Solving Skills – there are many ways for nurses to exercise their ability to quickly solve problems. This includes patient emergencies, family grief, relations with doctors and much more. A great nurse should be able to assess and resolve issues when they occur.
  • Flexibility – being a nurse doesn’t involve the typical nine-to-five shift. Nurses must be flexible to work 8-12+ hour shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays. Flexibility is also needed when it comes to duties and responsibilities; as previously stated, no two days are the same.

Nurses are a jack of all trades, and their virtues are no different. They provide great care by tailoring their qualities to each and every patient.
