The Importance of Knowing English

Nurses are a vital aspect of the healthcare system and provide about 90 percent of all healthcare services worldwide. But no matter where nurses practice, they may be required to learn English at some point in their career. This requirement is due to the growing usage of English in medical settings worldwide.

Language barriers may prohibit nurses from fully understanding patients, orders from doctors, and communicating with coworkers.  Therefore, knowing English is crucial to efficiently perform their duties. Nurses may enroll in English programs to learn medical and healthcare terminology, become familiar with nurse-patient interactions and do practice tests in listening, speaking, reading and writing.
